District Firefighters Receive "Distinguished Service Award"

Thursday, March 11th 2010
Six members of the Weber Fire District were recently recognized by being awarded the District’s “Distinguished Service Award”. Firefighters Chris Whetton, Rock Toone, Greg Wright, Andy Lutz, Oliver Cummings and John Meek received their awards at the District’s annual banquet.
On May 4, 2009 Engine 65 and Engine 62 responded to an incident where a 65 year old male who had fallen 20 feet from the roof he was working on. He stated that he fell while trying to sheet his roof by himself. The patient was treated and transported to the hospital and was later reported to have suffered a cervical fracture.
He was trying to finish sheeting the roof before the next storm, which was due that night. Captain Meek asked the other firefighters if they would mind sheeting the rest of the roof and secured permission from the patient’s family. Chris Whetton was a framer/contractor and had a lot of knowledge and skill in this type of work. All six firefighters willingly returned to the patient’s home and with his son’s guidance, they quickly sheeted the rest of the roof prior to the storm.
These firefighters represented Weber Fire District with pride and honor, expecting nothing in return. They done what came natural to them, by lending a helping hand and serving a member of our community at a time of need.
